Superintendent’s Message - Thanksgiving Holiday
Posted 11/23/20

Newport-Mesa School Community,

As we approach Thanksgiving week and the holiday season I want to wish all of you and your family the best. It is important for all of us to take the time to rest and reflect on the most important things we can be thankful for. Especially during these difficult times it is more important to do this for each other and ourselves.

As you know, we have been urged to approach the holidays very differently by our state due the rise in positive cases throughout our country. Recently, guidance was issued for holiday gatherings that encourage us to celebrate within our own homes and avoid non-essential travel. The state also instituted a curfew from 10 pm to 5 am everyday until December 21. While all or some of these measures may affect our holiday plans and traditions, it is necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to avoid further impact to our health care system, businesses and schools.

Now, more than ever, I encourage each of you to consider these state and county guidelines during the holiday season and to continue your diligence in following the health precautions, not only within our schools, but in the community.

I know that our holidays will be different, but it does not mean it needs to be without connection and joy. Let’s look for ways to celebrate the holidays with those you love and care for with meaningful and deeper connections.

I wish you all a safe, restful and grateful Thanksgiving.
